During my education at Northern Michigan University, I realized I had a deep passion for print design. Tangible, printed material that you could pick up off the table and hold in your hands is just something you can’t replace with a digital publication. When NMU’s independent student newspaper, the North Wind, offered me an internship, I couldn’t turn it down. After four semesters with the newspaper, I had learned more than I could have ever imagined. From weekly deadlines to photo assignments and online article management, the North Wind was a great introduction to the real world of printed publications. As their layout editor, I was assigned to design the full-color center spread each week, along with various graphics throughout each issue. Also as the North Wind’s online editor, I was to update their WordPress-based website each week.
